In June, the City of Boston, the Boston Public Schools, and many of Boston’s philanthropies and foundations teamed up to launch the Boston Opportunity Agenda, a historic partnership that is building a seamless education pipeline for children from birth to adulthood. Thrive in 5 has been selected as the priority initiative for the early childhood portion of the education pipeline, “Strong Educational Foundation”.
Five communities were selected from an open request for proposals process to serve as Boston Children Thrive pilot communities (formerly known as Community School Readiness Wiring).

Through a comprehensive and inclusive Request for Proposal (RFP) process a University of Massachusetts Boston team of evaluators, led by the McCormack Graduate School’s Center for Social Policy, was selected to serve as Thrive in 5′s external evaluator.
In fall 2009, Thrive in 5 invited organizations to apply for five neighborhood grants to strengthen their communities’ capacity to engage families in their children’s learning and development, starting at birth.
